If you own a Honda Accord, make sure to lock it up tight. Maybe drive it to your local dealership and inquire about anti-theft systems. Why do you ask? Because a recent survey shows that the Honda Accord is the most stolen vehicle in Tennessee, South Carolina and, well...the United States.

These car thieves have great taste. The Honda Accord is one of the most popular and successful Honda models ever to be sold. It's spacious interior and great fuel economy make it a favorite amongst daily commuters.

And that's why Accord was the most stolen vehicle in South Carolina and nationwide last year, according to an insurance industry report.

"Hondas remain popular among thieves because their parts are interchangeable among many of the car maker's models," said Frank Scafidi, a spokesman for the National Insurance Crime Bureau, which released the report.

Fortunately, improved theft-deterrent technology in vehicles, stepped up law enforcement and better practices by drivers are driving down theft rates, "Cars are tougher to steal than they were five or 10 years ago," Scafidi said.

Myrtle Beach, S.C. does remain one of the capitals for car thefts on a per-100,000 population basis and was ranked No. 21 nationally last year, the insurance group said.
